This collection consists of about 1,000 naturally occuring
plasmids from E. coli, other enteric bacteria, and staphylococcus
aureus. The collection was started in 1976 by Dr. Esther
Lederberg at Stanford University, previously called the
"Plasmid Reference Center". This collection contains
plasmids of all types of genes, coding for antibiotic resistance,
heavy metal resistance, virulence, conjugation, colicins,
transposons, and other unknown factors. Most of these plasmids
have not been thoroughly studied. Some plasmids have been
assembled as kits for (1) plasmid incompatibility group
classification, (2) prototype colicins, (3) transposons
1 to 10 standards, and (4) distinguishable antibiotic resistance
subtypes. Please contact Dr. Greg Phillips for more information.
